Qaidi
By Deshbandhu Dogra `Nutan’
Dogra’s Qaidi is very effective with its powerful language and strong socio-political theme. The novel explored and exposed the reality of rural Dogra life in great depth and detail. With a straight narrative, a central plot and a chain of events forming the plot, the novel revolves around the central character Bhaagan and her struggle for survival and maintenance of integrity in a hostile, orthodox and exploitative society. It received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1982.
